“Addiction is the ultimate loneliness. It strips a person of connection, feeling, and vitality. It is a state of isolation, a separation from the life around us.” – Maia Szalavitz
Often, by the time an individual makes it into our care the only bond they have left is the one that keeps them tethered to their drug of choice. Whether that be fentanyl or crystal meth, alcohol or marijuana, they have become disconnected from the world around them. Palm View’s goal is to create spaces that allow healing to occur. We understand that with healing, comes connection. Once an individual begins to feel that connection their recovery takes on a life of its own. Friendships are formed, families are restored, passions are ignited. At Palm View, we aim to be a place where our clients feel safe enough to try a new way of living. One that is born out of awareness, authenticity and alignment and one that results in connection. First to self, then to other, then to the Whole.
Group therapy is an essential component of Palm View’s addiction treatment program. Group therapy sessions provide the backdrop for “human being” to occur. Clients are encouraged to become aware of what is going on inside of them and to authentically communicate this to the group. Not only does this provide them the opportunity to practice awareness, honesty, and trust, it also allows them to realize how similar we all are. These experiences do much to combat the “separateness” that has defined their existence for so long.
Another benefit of group therapy is that it can provide individuals with new perspectives and coping strategies for managing their addiction. In a group therapy setting, individuals can learn from others who have successfully overcome addiction or who are currently working through similar challenges. This can be particularly helpful for individuals who may be resistant to individual therapy or who may feel stuck in their current treatment plan. Group therapy can also provide a sense of accountability, as individuals are able to share their progress and setbacks with others and receive feedback and encouragement.
At Palm View, group therapy is a central component of the addiction treatment program. Individuals who participate in group therapy sessions at Palm View are able to connect with others who are going through similar experiences, learn from the experiences and insights of others, and develop new coping strategies for managing their addiction. By providing a supportive and non-judgmental environment for individuals to connect and grow, group therapy can be an invaluable resource for individuals who are struggling with addiction.
